Papa's Letters Review

     Many of us (who live in the US) long to trace our ancestry and have very little information to rely on. It is still possible, but imagine reading your Grandfather’s love letters to your Grandmother? Imagine being able to connect so many dots of your past? I found “Papa’s Letters” to be such a heart-warming story of this amazing man’s journey for love and the family bonds instilled thereafter.

     Author (and Granddaughter) Judith C. Lovell shares this romantic, historical and awe-inspiring story. Along with letter excerpts Lovell shares fond memories of the family allowing you to grasp the whole picture. Love can blossom anywhere, if it is the right time and place and if you open your heart. These two magnificent Jamaican-American lovers prove this and much more. 

The Broken Gift by Daniel Friedmann

The controversy is as old as the written word (and probably before) who is right/wrong in the battle of Creationism vs. Evolution. As a well studied open-minded individual who was raised in a strict Christian Minister's household I have found myself in the middle of the debate several times. I read "The Broken Gift" by Daniel Friedmann in one sitting - that is how gripping the book is. The author has an uncanny ability to argue both sides of the issue with the same amount of knowledge/research. He does this with a sense of delicacy for Christians and Scientists alike, perhaps both are right. Naturally he leaves the decision up to the reader (as it should be) only supplying facts/resources for his conclusions. I have been following Mr. Friedmann's virtual book tour for some time and his fact-based findings are refreshing to say the least.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with an open mind - of course I will not suggest it to my Father lest we have another argumentative Holiday season! Even if you have not read Daniel Friedmann's first book "The Genesis One Code" you will have only a vast amount of knowledge to gain by reading "The Broken Gift".

The Paris Wife: A Novel

Life is complicated with moments of happiness and moments of sadness.

Knowing Ernest Hemingway's history, I knew Hadley was his first wife - first of many. My heart would not allow my head to finish the story...to see it through because I have a personal connection.

I cried myself through the last 5 chapters, re-reading emotions. The underlying message that Hadley told herself...the same message I tell myself. "What is done, is done. No one knows what tomorrow will bring but you must be present."

Maybe it's the pain and ultimately the divorce of one of my favorite writers that has me obsessed with this book. All I know is there is a deep resonance. I find myself thinking about Ernest and Hadley from time to time. When was the last time a book did this to you?
